| An update from Mass. C.O.P. President Hugh Cameron: |

The troubled economy has impacted the tax base of Cities and Towns across the Commonwealth and ultimately resulted in tightening budgets. Public employees have been the focus of many cutbacks and police officers have been targeted. Thanks to our members, Mass. C.O.P. is larger and stronger than ever and we are determined to protect those who serve. The road has been long and the battles hard fought. Our staff, Executive Board, attorneys, and most importantly our membership have been unwavering in their commitment to fight for fairness. Our efforts have been rewarded with key victories, but with each new victory comes a new challenge. It is more important than ever before for our membership to get involved and to take action. Our turnout at lobbying and legislative events has been excellent and I would like to personally thank our members for their continued dedication and involvement. In troubled times, Police officer’s often become a target for the politician of the hour. We want those politicians to know that the MCOP was here defending our officers before they arrived and will be here to tip our hats and hold the door for them on their way out. When our members are targeted by short sighted, double-dealing legislators, we want them to know and learn to expect, that we will arrive at their door step with our nearly 4,000 officers and their families. Remember, our battles are fought on many fronts, including the courts AND the voting booth. If you are unsure which legislators are on your side, don’t hesitate to ask your representative on the MCOP executive board. Mass. C.O.P. has many allies in the legislature and we want you to know who they are. Thank you for your continued support and outstanding attendance at our important events. Your participation has been critical to our success and with your support we will continue succeed. In Solidarity, Hugh J. Cameron, President |
